Setting Up a Direct Billing Arrangement for Inpatient Treatment

To establish a direct billing arrangement for an upcoming inpatient treatment, follow these steps:

1. **Verify Your Medical Provider**: Check if the medical provider (MP) you plan to visit is a Panel Provider (PP).

Direct billing is only available through BUPA's designated Panel Providers (PP). You may need to use the Pay & Claim arrangement if your medical provider is not a PP.

If your hospital is a panel provider, present your BUPA membership card at admission and request that they secure a Guarantee of Payment (GOP) from IHP MalaysiaThe participating medical provider will work with IHP Malaysia to obtain approvals.

Setting Up a Direct Billing Arrangement for Outpatient Treatment

For outpatient treatment, you must verify if your medical provider is a Panel Provider of BUPA.

1. **Verify Your Medical Provider**: Check if the medical provider (MP) you plan to visit is a Panel Provider (PP).

If your provider is listed, contact them to confirm whether they will accept a GOP / Direct Billing arrangement from IHP Malaysia for your treatment. Some medical providers only allow direct billing for inpatient treatments and require payment for outpatient services upfront. If this is the case, you will need to pay for your treatment and later submit a claim, or you may choose to find another medical provider that will accept a GOP / Direct Billing setup for your required treatment. For the GOP / Direct Billing arrangement, present your BUPA membership number to the medical provider and request that they secure approval from IHP Malaysia. The participating medical provider will coordinate with IHP Malaysia to obtain approvals.

To ensure a faster approval process, members should schedule a medical appointment with the provider in advance (3-5 days, if possible). If you walk in without an appointment, please be aware that the expected waiting time for a cashless approval may take at least one hour.
