Imagine the consequences if sensitive medical information fell into the wrong hands:

  1. A prominent politician’s cancer treatment becomes public knowledge.

  2. A multinational corporation’s CEO’s depression treatment is leaked.

  3. Your executive assistant learned that you are undergoing treatment for a sexually transmitted disease.

In all these cases, personal medical information could be misused, causing reputational, professional, and emotional harm.

Why Your Information Is Protected

In Singapore, insurers, intermediaries, and healthcare partners are bound by both statutory (Personal Data Protection Act – PDPA) and common law duties to safeguard your medical information. These safeguards mean:

  • Your HR manager or insurance broker/intermediary does not have access to the details or nature of your claims.

  • They cannot see how much of your benefit has been used or which specific benefit has been drawn down.

  • Even adult family members — including your spouse or 18-year-old child — cannot access your records without your consent.

Insurers are legally prohibited from disclosing your health insurance claims outcomes to family members unless you have expressly consented, or where an exception under the PDPA applies (e.g., emergencies or legal obligations).

Accessing Your Own Records

To review your benefit entitlement or claim outcomes, please use the insurer’s membership portal or mobile application.

Appealing a Claims Outcome

If you wish to appeal a decision, please email hello@asktic. We will assist you, but we require context. Please provide:

  • The Claims Assessment Statement from the insurer

  • All bills and medical reports submitted in support of the claim

Checking if Your Treatment Is Covered

For certainty, we recommend requesting pre-authorisation from your insurer before starting treatment. This will confirm in writing:

  1. Whether the treatment plan aligns with the diagnosis and is medically necessary

  2. Whether the cost is reasonable and not inflated

  3. Whether the condition was pre-existing before your coverage began

  4. Whether the treatment falls within policy limits

The Insurance Concierge supports and complies fully with the PDPA — both in spirit and in practice.
